I know, if you’ve been through the Dominatrix Calendar galleries and know my work well, this piece is old news. For about two weeks, I’ve been working on the Christmas pinup piece, for what feels about 10 minutes at a time.
For Christmas tree ornaments, I decided to cut out figures of Dommes and subs from older pieces and put them on the tree. Leaping Lesbians of the Sapphosphere pictured above is certainly good ornament material.
This piece came about when I was working at the QSM BDSM bookstore in San Francisco in my early 20’s. Every day, I would make the trek across the bay bridge in my little used red Volvo to work, then find myself trapped in the city after work due to gridlock. So I got used to staying in San Francisco for a few hours after work each day until traffic got better.
One of the first places I tried to kill time was in the Castro. There was a bar called Elephant Walk on Castro street. I’d plant myself at a cocktail table, whip out the sketchpad, draw fetish art, and sip on a soda while waiting out the traffic. The bar had typical retro swag more commonly found in places like TGIFridays and Chili’s, including a very large and fascinating bomb hanging over one of the tables.
After a long day of shipping out fetish magazines of varying shapes and sizes, I thought of an elegant tribute to the women I knew at places like the Daybreak in Mt. View. The bomb became a hovering transport, although one could interpret meanings such as explosive potential. There may have been some metal sconces at Elephant Walk that contributed to the torch designs in the picture, but I can’t remember for sure.
Note the two figures in the background. That’s about the size they are in the drawing too. I loved the diversity of San Francisco’s sex scene. It’s tempting to do a larger rendition of these other two riders. Something for me to think about in 2013.
